Early Snow in the San Juans

Feedback from the recent Jeepers Jamboree reported running into early snow on many of the higher elevation trails during the runs on the weekend of September 16 & 17. Several of the groups reported snow over Hurricane and Engineer Passes as well as on the Black Bear Pass and Imogene summits. The weather service is reporting the mountains have been receiving snow in amounts of over a foot in many areas. Early forecasts show several passing storms may bring additional snow to the higher elevations. Use caution when traveling any trails with summits over 10,000 feet. If the forecasts hold true we may see some early trail closures this Fall.
