Hello and Happy new year!! Our club meeting is tonight at 7:00 at the gun club. We hope to see everyone there!!
Members Ruth and Lester Sendecki ran the Rimrocker Trail on Dec. 20th. They did it 'reverse' (Moab to Montrose) from what most of us in this area do. Here's the Trip Report - full credit to Ruth Sendecki. Rimrocker Trail - Moab to Highway 141 - Submitted by Ruth Sendecki As many of you know, Lester and I have led a couple of trips on the Rimrocker from the Colorado side into Moab. And, as those of you who were with us know, we have made the same wrong turn - not once but twice. This has been driving me crazy!! So, the last day of fall, Dec. 20th was supposed to have decent weather. We posted this trail ride and had 2 other jeeps join us. Met up in Moab Tuesday (the 21st) evening and our adventure began bright and early on the 20th. Joined the Rimrocker Trail just off Highway 191 at the turn for Area BFE. This is a great staging area with plenty of room to air down. The trail was negotiated without any problems and we recognized the western end of the section we usually miss. Headed toward CO involved a left turn here and then about 4 miles later, a very hard left turn (in essence a U-turn) had us back on the section we have run before. This second left (the U-turn) is the turn we have missed heading into Moab. For those of you interested, the GPS coordinates for that turn are N 38 21.09 / W 109 17.37. (If headed to Moab, this will be an extremely hard right hand turn, downhill). We did try to mark the turn and block off the wrong turn as best we could. The rest of the Rimrocker (parts 3 and 4) were driven without any issues but with stops at Buckeye Reservoir for lunch and at overlooks of the Paradox Valley. Our thanks to John and Susanne and Chuck for coming along and putting up with our search. What fun to be out, the day before the start of winter enjoying OUR public lands. ... See more
Our Members Liane and Steve are thinking ahead for July (it'll be here before you know it!) Forwarded message from them: Liane & I volunteered to be the 'keepers of the trail' for Mineral Creek and I just got an email about a big event in the Silverton area this summer. I'd like to schedule a run/clean-up party sometime in mid July. I know the 4th is a big deal there in Silverton and will be really crowded so I'm thinking either the 14th or 21st? We can talk it up at the next meeting. Here's hoping everyone has a great Christmas! Steve & Liane ... See more
Hey Folks, a message relayed from Club Memebers Ruth and Lester Sendecki. Please contact them directly if interested. Happy Holidays! We know it's short notice and the week before Christmas but...... Is anyone interested in meeting us in Moab next Wednesday morning, the 20th, and running the Rimrocker trail in reverse? There appears to be a turn that we often miss going toward Moab so have decided to start in Moab and try to see where we go wrong. Let us know if you are interested. Please pass this message along to anyone else you think may be interested. Lester and Ruth ... See more
