WS4W Club Calendar
Trip Plan:
Leave South City Market at 8:30am Wednesday August 28. Re-group at Naturita Sales Gas Station/Store.
Bring or buy usual snacks, lunch, water, full tank of gas.
Trail begins approximately 22 miles beyond Naturita.
Trail is in 2 parts, both an in-&-out.
First part climbs the mesa to a dead end above the mine & buildings. Difficulty 3 the last time we were there. Scenic & good rock hounding.
Return most of the way to the highway for the second part.
Second part runs along the creek to a dead end across the creek from the remaining mine buildings. Difficulty 2 if dry.
Bring boots or water shoes if you want to cross the creek to investigate the buildings.
Total time off pavement may be 2 1/2 to 3 hours including lunch.
While commonly called Cashin Copper Mine, it probably produced more silver than copper. Also has some gruesome history a murder.
Please let us know if you expect to join us for this trip.
Thanks,
Lester & Ruth

Monthly club meeting 7:00 pm at Lion’s Clubhouse, 602 North Nevada, Montrose
The club meets the first Tuesday of every month unless displaced by a holiday.
Trip Plan:
Yeah, We thought a trip to Leadville by way of Hagerman Pass still sounded like a good idea.
Leave South City Market 8:30am Sunday Sept 8. Drive pavement to Delta, Hotchkiss, Carbondale & Basalt.
Hope to find the turn for Midland Ave that connects to Fryingpan Road.
Map seems to show Fryingpan Rd as paved for about 32 miles. Then connects to unpaved 105 that goes over Hagerman Pass, rated moderate, then connects to paved road about 10 miles from Leadville.
If all of that is successful, we will stay at the Rodeway Inn, 1128 Hiway 24 South.
Monday, Leave Rodeway Inn at 8:30am. Drive over Mosquito Pass, (13,185ft) also moderate, to Hiway 9. Then South on 9 to Fairplay, to Hiway 185, to Route 22 Weston Pass Road. Then over Weston Pass (11,290ft), easy, to Hiway 24 back to Leadville.
We plan to return to Montrose on Tuesday either back over Hagerman Pass or by way of I-70.
Please let us know if you plan to join us on this expedition,
Thanks,
Lester & Ruth
