Monthly club meeting 7:00 pm at Lion’s Clubhouse, 602 North Nevada, Montrose
The club meets the first Tuesday of every month unless displaced by a holiday.
“Official” Clean Up for Smith Mountain Jeep Road has been Scheduled for Thursday July 7.. This trail is rated a 3.
Plan to leave from Downtown City Market at 9:30am.
Bring lunch, snacks, water, full tank of gas, maybe gloves & a trash bag.
Lunch may be up on the top of the ridge or late lunch along the Gunnison River.
Last time we were up there it was still pretty clean. We will stop several times to replace the faded stickers on the Carsonite signs.
Expect to return to the staging area by way of Peach Valley Road.
Communications: Plan to use WS4W #1, also known as 151.505. We will also monitor CB 5 if needed.
July 9 – Black Bear (the usual route) – meet at South City Market at 8:30am with a full tank of gas, lunch, water, snacks, etc. Trail is rated a 6. Will most likely be in Telluride by 1:00pm with several options of a return route. Home by 3:00pm more or less. There will be an option of returning to Highway 550 from the Pass for those who may not want to go all the way into Telluride.
Holy Cross on July 12th. Camp at the trailhead on the 12th, with an early start the 13th. Estimate on trail is 11 hours, so plan accordingly. Trail is rated a 9
Limit 7 vehicles, so five slots still open. Let Steve Ridgway or Jess D know. Plan to meet at the gas station in Paonia at 11:00am on the 12th.
Plan to leave South City Market at 8:00am. This will be a long work day. Rick, Scott and Ferris will work between now and then to decide on materials needed and, if needed, round them. Terry will have a welder by the 16th to use as needed. It was suggested that the CORE group from the Gunnison area be invited to join and help with this project.
Lester and Ruth will be exploring in the Price UT area. On the 17th meet at the Holiday Inn in Price at 11:30 – we’ll explore the Reservation Ridge Road and surrounding area. Monday and Tuesday – meet both days at 8:30 at the Holiday Inn. We’ll explore Dry Canyon and Skyline Drive. All trails are rated easy to moderate. Camping is available in the area. Price, Helper and Orangeburg also have interesting museums if you have extra time.
Meet at A&W at 4:00pm. This will be a full moon run which will take the group to the trail head of some of the hard core trails on the Plateau. Be sure to have a full tank of gas. Plan to air down as Rim Road is rough; ride will end on Highway 90. NOTE: this ride will replace both the Club dinner and the Meet and Greet events for the month of July. contact Eddie and Linnea for additional details.
Williams Pass – this is an adopted club trail which is only open during the month of August. However, Rick A. will coordinate with Marcus T. of CORE to possibly open it July 31st. There will be dead fall to clean up. TIme and meeting place to be determined.

Bristol Head Peak is planned for August 16th. Plan to meet at the Quality Inn in South Fork at 8:30am with lunch, snacks, water and a full tank of gas. This road is about 15 miles long (one way) and is rated as easy. It does gain over 2500 feet in elevation and the top offers a magnificent panoramic view of the entire area. We have done this trail before several years ago. If time allows, we can explore the side trip to Crystal Lake.
