Williams Pass
Jul 15 @ 9:00 am – 4:30 pm

July 15th, 9am at Hancock Town Site, east side of Williams Pass Trail head with a full tank of gas, lunch, water and snacks. However, please note the following information:

We are planning on Meeting at the Hancock Townsite/Alpine Tunnel Trailhead on the St. Elmo side of Williams at 9am on July 15th. This is not a work day so we don’t need volunteers. We may clear a tree or two and I know of one rock that will need moved to travel the full pass, but the goal is to assess the condition with the FS. topics for discussion during this site visit will include possibily moving the opening month from August to September; the current road condition, future signage and any work that will need to be completed sometime this summer before the opening date.

Until the west tunnel grate is repaired, Williams will be run as an out and back from the Salida side.

If you need directions to the meeting site, please contact Rick A.

Poughkeepsie Gulch
Jul 18 @ 9:00 am – 5:00 pm

My plan is to leave south city market no later than 9 AM.
NO stop in Ouray. Air Down at the Corkscrew trailhead, and utilize the facilities in the woods.
Corkscrew -> Hurricane -> Top of Poughkeepsie.
If you need to stop for a potty there are 2 along the Corkscrew pass trail so feel free to peel off to use them, but my goal is to not stop till we hit the upper gate after airing down. It is going to take some work to remove the one snow drift. The bright side to this is that it is all downhill travel after the work is done. We will have some kind of briefing for all people in attendance at the top of the trail before we open the gates.

Be sure to have a full tank of gas, lunch, water and lots of snacks. Also bring tools, such as snow shovels, to help clear the drifts.

Williams Pass Work Day – CANCELLED
Jul 26 @ 8:00 am – 4:30 pm

We will be hosting a Williams Pass workday on Sunday, July, 26th. We will be brushing the road of overgrown willows, moving rocks, and working with the road engineer to cut waterbars. The project info is as follows.

Project Overview –

Where: East Alpine Tunnel Parking Lot (38.639400, -106.361851)
When: 0800, July 26th
Plan: Drive to the summit, have a safety meeting, disperse into work crews
Tools to Bring: Battery powered hedge trimmer or battery powered saws, lopers, shovel, pick.

It would be ideal to take as few vehicles up the pass as possible. Please ride with someone. There is not a lot of room to stay on the trail at the summit.

**We will be locking the gate behind the crew so please don’t be late**

Bring water, lunch, snacks, gloves, etc.
