Destination: Bodie CA State Historic Park.
Leave Bishop, CA Best Western 8:30am California Time Tuesday September 22. Plan to drive the slightly longer unpaved road into Bodie. Probably use the whole day if the Ghost Town is as interesting as we have been told. Have wanted to tour Bodie ghost town for years.
Wednesday, Sept 23, Same time & Place to meet & leave. Drive Silver/Wyman Canyons, 27.5 miles long, About 5 hours. Rated Easy. Start is about 15 miles from Bishop. Plan to take a side trip to a bristlecone pine forest.
Thur, Sept 24, Same time & place. Drive Sand Canyon or Buttermilk Country. Both half day trips, about 4 hours each, rated Moderate/Easy. Both near Bishop. Have not decided which to drive yet; one is an in and out, the other is a loop.
Based on advice of friends who have been there, we will drive Tioga Pass (paved highway) out of Lee Vining into Yosemite Park a little ways the other half of Thursday.
Please let us know if you will join us for any of this trip. All of this is new area and new trails for us. All of these will be full day trips; you’ll need a full tank of gas, lunch, water and snacks.

Saturday the 26th is National Public Lands Day according to one of our calendars. So let’s go out and enjoy some of our public lands.
Leave from South City Market at 8:30am Saturday Sept 26.
Plan to drive East on US 50 to Waunita Hot Springs Road.
Then North thru Pitkin to Tincup.
Then to Taylor Park.
May see some fall colors.
Then back to Gunnison & US50.
Might get to Gunnison in time for dinner at Garlick Mike’s.
Bring Lunch, Snacks, Food & full tank of gas. Probably top up in Gunnison.

Hells Roaring Rim-trail maintenance. You will need to register in advance for this event
Meet at the West gate at 9:30 am and will run from West to East
Mark and I are looking to go back to Holy Cross, and possibly Yansig Gulch the weekend of Oct 2nd – 4th. Well arrive the evening I’d the 2nd, run Holy Cross on the 3rd then Yansig Gulch on the 4th. All weather dependent.
Oct 2nd -arrive in the area and camp somewhere near the trail head hopefully.
Oct – 3rd hit the exit point of Holy Cross trail there with the small parking lot at 9-930. For those of anyone who attends and wants to start at the trail head at the very bottom I can be there at 745 – 8 for sheet sign in or what not. It takes roughly 1 hour to get from there to where Mark and I are going to jump on the trail.
Depending on time when we get back off the trail we may camp in the area there and just head to Yansig the morning of the 4th. If early enough, we’ll drive to Yansig and camp somewhere close. That will all probably be determined in the fly.
Oct – 4th meet at the trail head there at Yansig 930 to leave by 10. After trail depart area to head back to Montrose.
This will all be a camp trip with the possibility of eating dinner on Saturday night somewhere but that’s not promised so we will have packed food for ourselves.
