Jeep Recall 2016-2017

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) is issuing a recall for 182,743 2016 and 2017 Jeep Wranglers to replace wiring that may disconnect in some collisions, causing the front airbags and seatbelt pretensioners to fail to deploy in an accident. The company is unaware of any injuries or accidents as a result of the issue. The defect was discovered during a routine safety test conducted by the company.

The impact sensor wiring routing was changed for 2016 model year vehicles to facilitate ease of manufacturing. After the issue was discovered on 2016 models, a 2015 model was subjected to the same crash test. The 2015 model performed as expected and the airbags deployed. It was determined the change in the wiring routing was the culprit causing the airbags to fail to deploy. Wranglers built after mid-August 2016 have the correct wiring routing. In addition to U.S. models, 18,011 vehicles in Canada, 3,087 in Mexico, and 20,948 vehicles outside of the NAFTA region.
